CCW Badges

You know that thing they teach you during your CCW Class?  Can't have a CCW Badge and all?  A former co-worker told me a story about his brother.  He was driving and thought someone had hit him.  He proceeds to follow the guy until the guy stops.  He and the other guy has an argument.

Well, the argument starts to get heated and he tells the guy "I just wanted to let you know I have a firearm and a CCW" or something similar.  As far as my understanding is concerned, I believe this is legal but not the best way to do it.  He then proceeds to bring out and show his CCW badge.  Big no-no.

He leaves, the other guy leaves.  But the other guy calls the cops.  Cops arrest him, book him, and he's charged with a misdemeanor.  Something like impersonating an officer, illegal detention or something like that.  In the end, the guy loses his permit because of the misdemeanor.

I always thought instructors made this crystal clear that badges are not allowed, unless you happen to be an officer.
