I know this is an old post, so the problem sounds like it's rectified, but I'd add that common mistake folks make is putting the firing pin retaining pin in from the right to the left, instead of from left to right (like should be done). When this is done incorrectly, the head of the firing pin retaining pin will protrude slightly from the right side of the carrier and drag the inside of the upper receiver, causing sluggish operation or in come cases, the bolt carrier sticking in the upper.
PS: I was a DOD Small Arms Repairman and military firearms instructor, so I've seen this happen MANY times!
